Coloring Fabric Fun!

Many of you may know our story- my mom opened the Quilt Basket since I was 6 years old.  Once I became a stay at home mom to my son Carter, I decided becoming a part of this family business needed to be my next big adventure.  Having the opportunity to work with my family on a regular basis is truly a blessing- not just for me but for Carter.  He loves to spend his days with his grandparents and great aunt.  He is even more excited when my aunt brings my cousins into the shop to play with him.  Sometimes I think he may be a little spoiled, but that is what life is all about when you are a 2 year old!

I have noticed recently that my parents really have the "grandparents syndrome."  They love spending time with all 5 of their grand kids and are always thinking up fun activities or gifts to get for all of them.  When we were at Quilt Market back in May, we all fell in love with the adorable fabric line Color Me by Michael Miller.  This fabric is designed so children (or adults) can color the fabric in and make something out of it.

The first thing my mom thought of was placemats.  She used Carter as the tester for this since it seemed to keep him busy at the shop.  For this project she had him use washable markers so he can reuse his placemat at different meals.  I cannot wait to see all 5 of the kids color their placemats next time we are all together.

A couple of weeks ago my mom came up with another fun idea.  She decided to send my niece, Nora, and my nephew, Alton, a yard of fabric with permanent markers.  The kids were so excited to get a package in the mail from grandma and grandpa and were even more excited when it was a fun activity.  After a few days my sister-in-law sent them back to us. The fabric was perfect!! It is exactly what we expected to see from an almost 4 year old and an almost 2 year old.  Scribbled, out of the lines, lots of color and adorable! Once we received the fabric back my mom made pillowcases out of the colored fabric.  They came out great!

I wonder what the next great idea will be that we come up with for the kids to do with this fabric.  If you are a grandparent or parent- this is a really fun fabric line for you to enjoy with your kids. What ideas do you have to do with this fabric? We would love to see all of your great ideas- please send us pictures!

For those of you participating in the Row By Row Experience- We had our winner!!
We were excited that Susan Muriak stopped in on August 6th to show us her finished quilt and collect her prize of 25 fat quarters!!

We have been having a blast the last few months with Jackie Kunkel for the 2015 Technique of the month. Here is a sneak peak of a few of the color combinations being created by our students.

Have a great week filled with quilting and family fun!!
Sarah
