Elephant Quilting

"How do you eat an elephant?"
"One bite at a time!"

Debby Brown's Sweet Sixteen retreat this past Saturday was a lot a fun!  Students worked with free-hand designs, grid-based designs, stencils, long arm quilting templates and other techniques.

Why are elephants so wrinkled?
They take too long to iron!

Carter's Birthday Banner!

Carter's first Birthday is 1 month away!  My husband and I decided to use bright colors as the theme of Carter's Party. We have plates, cups, decorations and balloons in all different colors.  I want to make this celebration special since it is a milestone for Carter and so exciting for the rest of our family.  Trying to make this party have as many personal touches as possible, I've been collecting ideas for different items I can create.
The first item I attempted was a tiered fondant cake, though the first test run was not as colorful and fun as I had envisioned. Looks like we are going to be eating a lot of cake this month!  Since I need more practice in the baking and cake decorating department, I decided to work on another project this week instead.
Thinking of what decorations may be needed, I decided a Happy Birthday Banner would be perfect!  This quick and easy project will not only be used this year but for his future birthday parties as well.
I started by creating a template for the triangles and chose 7 different solid fun colors. This is a perfect idea for the American Brand Cotton Solids!!

I then used the iron-on Silhouettes and placed the letters on my triangles.

I cut 2 inch strips from one of the fabrics and sewed them together until I thought it was long enough. Finally I sewed the strip (folded) to the triangles.

Carter's First Birthday Banner is complete and I couldn't be more excited! I cannot wait to come up with another idea for next week!
* The American Brand Cotton Solids and Silhouettes are available on our website.

Thank you

Sarah

Why do we paint Easter eggs?

Because it's easier than trying to wallpaper them!

American Made Brand Cotton Solids/ Sarah's First Blog!

American Made Brand Cotton Solids!
Many of you are familiar with the owners of the Quilt Basket, Cathy and Allan Anderson.  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as their daughter, Sarah.  I am currently a stay at home mom to my 11-month-old son, Carter. I have grown up around my family’s business and am excited to have an opportunity to start blogging for the Quilt Basket.  With that said, I am very excited to introduce to you the new line of cotton solid fabrics from Clothworks that are expected to arrive in June. My father grew up on a farm in Minnesota and I still have relatives located there working their own farms.  The fact that these new fabrics are not only made in the United States but are also grown in the United States supporting the farmers in the U.S. is near and dear to my heart.  Although farming is a part of my family history, I am not currently a farmer, but my husband and I do have 3 goats as pets!

Over the past two decades about 70% of the cotton grown in the United States has been shipped to other countries for processing.  Now farmers are sending cotton directly to textile companies located right here in the United States! This not only supports the American farmers but also American manufacturing companies. Whether you are looking for the perfect color for your current project or a new modern project made from all solids- these cottons are the perfect addition to your fabric stash.

These 50 beautiful solid colors will be available in June.  Please click the link below to preorder your fabrics. Any orders received prior to June 1st will be $5.75 per yard, after that the cost will be $6.00 per yard.   http://www.quiltbasket.com/s-805-cotton-solids.aspx

·       All preorders will not be charged until the fabric has been shipped to you
Thank you

Pinwheels and Friends

We had a great time this past weekend participating in Pinwheels and Friends annual event in Mt Kisco.
Each vendor did a mini class.  Quilt Basket demoed half square triangles and made a table runner with them. There were lots of prizes and games.  We are looking forward to next year!
