National Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day and $5 Block of the Month

This past Thursday, on National Visit Your Local Quilt Shop Day, the Quilt Basket hosted a day for quilters to make donation quilts for people affected by Hurricane Sandy.  We made Log Cabin quilts and used a new ruler that we really like.  The ruler is available on our website.

This is the first block of the 2013 $5 Block of the Month.

Letters and Snowflakes

To continue my obsession with Edyta Sitar, here are several of her new products.

These products are fusible letters and designs for appliqué.  We have letters to spell out "Happy Birthday" and blue snowflakes at the shop.  Leaves and white snowflakes are currently out of stock but we will be getting more in soon.

The Dorrian Joke of the Week:

What do snowmen eat for breakfast?

Snowflakes.

"Birthday, Ruler, Viking, and $5 Block of the Month"

Quill had a fun time this weekend at Susanna's Sweet Sixteen!

We have been preparing for our Hurricane Sandy Quilt Donations.  We have a new Log Cabin ruler to make these blocks.  If you are interested in spending a few hours making a donation quilt, stop by on Thursday, January 24.  You will learn a new technique while helping us make quilts for people affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Allan says, "Who says Vikings can't quilt?"

Below are the color combinations for our 2013 $5 Block of the Month.  Batik and Traditional.

Contest Winner and Prep for the $5 Block of the Month

Jennifer L. of Stony Point, NY won the Quilt Basket's Row by Row quilt contest.  Her prize was 25 fat quarters.  Congratulations!

I am preparing the backing of the $5 Block of the Month Quilt.  The batiks should be rinsed in Retayne before they are used.

Here Quill T. Basket is watching the fabric dry.
