Happy New Year from the Quilt Basket!

Greetings from Pawling!!

We hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!! This year was a very special one for us.  Carter is now 19 months old and had the true spirit of Christmas.  The past few weeks as I have been decorating, shopping and baking; he has been watching trying to figure out what was going on.  Thankfully my very busy little boy was very good about not touching the tree, ornaments, decorations or my beautiful tree skirt. Christmas morning he was so amazed and excited that Santa came to visit us.  It took us most of the day to get through all of his presents, but to see that little face full of joy was priceless.  I already cannot wait until next year. I can only imagine how much more he will understand and how excited he will be! I had better start shopping, quilting and planning now!

The rest of the afternoon was spent at my aunt’s house.  It is such a wonderful feeling when everyone gets together to laugh, reminisce and enjoy each others company and many family traditions.  My brother has a daughter, Sophie, who is 15 months old.  She of course was as overwhelmed and enthusiastic as Carter.  The two of them playing together, helping each other open gifts, hugging each other and every once in a while running from one another made this a very special day.  I have another niece and nephew, who unfortunately didn’t make the trip here for Christmas, but we were able to spend Thanksgiving together.  Four kids, ranging from 15 months to 3 years, in one house together is an amazingly wonderful experience.  I am sure in future years there may be some arguing, but right now they all play with one another with innocence and curiosity. I cannot wait for the next holiday when we are all together again!

Now that the holidays are over, it is time to start getting ready for the New Year!! We have a busy schedule of classes coming this year and an abundance of brand new fabric lines.  These are all available on our website as well as in store. Please click on the link to view our Newsletter Winter 2015

One of our newest lines is the Robert Kaufman Diary of aWimpy Kid collection.  My cousin Dorrian, also known as the Pawling Chicken, has been reading this series of books for as long as I can remember.  There was no option but to get this fabric as soon as we saw it.  This line is perfect for lunchboxes, pajama pants, pillowcases and other great gift ideas for kids!

My little guy, Carter, loves trucks, tractors, cars and bikes.  When I saw the new Robert Kaufman Ready Set Go 2 Collection, I had to have it! Now that the holidays are over my imagination is running wild to create all sorts of fun items for Carter using this fabric.  I will be sure to keep you updated on the great ideas I have! Below are a few of the fabrics in this line, to show you just how adorable they are.

We of course have not just been getting new children’s lines in this week, but also the brand new Dear Stella Lila Collection. This sophisticated yet fun and flirty fabric is deep purples and blues contrasting with a cool marine green.  I can picture this beautiful collection used for little girl’s dresses, purses or as a quilt in a bedroom for people of all ages. This line is available as a Cutie Pack or as yardage on our website and in store.

I hope you enjoyed reading about our family Christmas and some of our newest collections.  Please be sure to check our website for all of our great lines available.

We wish you a healthy and happy New Year!!

CUTIE PATTERNS OF THE WEEK
We, of course, have been busy once again working on our newest Cutie Patterns with the new lines we receive.  This week we created a pattern using the Andover Alison Glass Handcrafted fabric, called Follow My Lead.  We also created a new Cutie Pattern using the Andover Downton Abbey II Fabrics.  Both of these patterns are currently being finalized and written, once completed we will post them on our website under Cutie Patterns.  We do have the Downton Abbey Cutie Packs currently available, and are packaging up the Alison Glass packs shortly.

OTHER NEWS
I would like to thank my friend Carole for watching my 18 month old son, Carter, last Friday!! Carole and Carter had a wonderful day at home reading and playing while I went to work and focused on the final website design.  Usually Carter comes to work with mommy, grandma and Great Aunt Anne, but every once in a while Carter likes to spend the day at home being spoiled and getting undivided attention.  Luckily the weather wasn’t too bad and they were able to play outside and walk throughout the property and woods.  Carter’s favorite activity is running around in our very large yard and sometimes even playing with our goats.
On the days that Carter does come to work with me, his special job is to put a little surprise in every order and then hand deliver the packages to the post office.  Of course, with having our shop in Pawling, this great little village is the perfect place to take walks during the day.  Carter goes on many walks as we run our errands to the bank, post office and other places, making this little guy very happy.  But, the days when Carter stays home, we are all questioned as to where our little helper is! I think Carter is better known in this village than any of us are!

Hi Everyone! We hope you had a great week and happy Friday!

This week like many others, we have been working on quite a few different projects.  Now that our store in physically located in Pawling, NY, we have been invited to attend different activities held in this adorable little town.  This Saturday, November 15th we will be at the first annual Pawling Chocolate Festival at the Lathrop Center at Lakeside Park.  We have put together different kits that can be used to make great gifts.  Some examples are tote bags, wallets, aprons and pillowcases.  If you are in the area, please stop by and see us!

To learn more about this event please visit http://www.pawlingrotary.org/chocolatefestival/

Huguenot Street

We are proud to be located in the beautiful Hudson Valley.  This area is filled with historical landmarks, one of which is located in New Paltz, NY.  In 1678, a group of families came to this area in order to have the freedom to worship as they chose.  Over many years this group made up of Indian, French, Dutch, African, English, and other men and women created an entire village of buildings and stories, creating a new identity as Americans .  This area later became known as Historic Huguenot Street.  Today this area is still preserved and open to the public.  Windham Fabrics reached out to us with a line of reproduction fabrics based on the history of Huguenot Street , asking us to create a quilt pattern.  Using this beautiful line, known as Windsong, we created Huguenot Revisited.  This gorgeous pattern allows the beauty of the fabrics to truly show the history of this area. This quilt is also available as a  pattern or kit on our website

Carousel

A few weeks ago I was inspired by the Carousel Line by Dear Stella.  I wanted this pattern to be fun and whimsical.  Using the main Carousel fabric as the center and adding a few pinwheels using Dear Stella Mini Confetti, this quilt or duvet cover came out exactly as I had hoped.  I can just imagine this quilt in a little girls’ room adding some color, fun and imagination.

Cutie Patterns

Our creative juices have been working to come up with so many different patterns that can be made by using our Cutie Collections.  In case you haven't heard, we have started packaging the newest lines of fabrics into Cutie Packs.  These packs include 16 Fat 1/8ths (9 inches by 22 inches).  By taking these 16 different fabrics and occasionally a background, border and lattice we have started an entire line of patterns that can be used with any Cutie Pack, making each quilt unique.  We have already had customers come in to show us the pattern they made using different packs and they are all stunning!  Last week I was working on a cutie pattern using 2 cutie packs made using the Persimmon Line by Moda.

This queen size quilt came out exactly as I had hoped! I still need to add the final border, but here is a sneak peak at the final product

I have mentioned previously that we are also redesigning our online store.  Once this is up and running, we will have all of our previous and new cutie patterns and packs available.  In the meantime, anyone that may be local, please come and see us at 4D Oak Street  Pawling, NY to see our newest creations! Pawling is a great little village to see with a great restaurant, bakery, olive oil store and much more!

Finally, I just wanted to share with you some of the other newest lines we recently received in the shop.  Andover Fabrics has released the newest Downton Abbey II Collection!

Last week we also received the newest Ultimate Spider-Man II Collection from Camelot Cottons.  This fabric is perfect for backpacks, neck ties, pillowcases and other projects for Spider-Man fans of all ages! These fabrics are in stock and available on our website!

We also still have them American Made Brand Cotton Solids in stock, and just ordered 12 new colors! We cannot wait for these to come in.  If you are thinking of making a Christmas gift that has been grown by farmers and finished by you, completely in the United States, this fabric is perfect!

If you are interested in any of the fabrics or patterns, please click on the links to view them on our website.  Thank you for taking the time to see what is new at the Quilt Basket, we look forward to sharing our newest ideas next week with you!

Cutie and Handi Quilter News!

This week, like so many lately, has been a very busy one at the shop.  We have been receiving new lines of fabric, teaching classes and creating new Cutie Patterns! For those of you interested, once I have added our newest lines to our website, I post on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to let everyone know what has just arrived!

We have 3 new Cutie Patterns we are currently creating and cannot wait to share all of them with you!  This new project was a new technique for me.  Trying to create my own pattern while using a new technique was challenging enough, adding in a 17-month-old fighting for your attention at the same time, let's just say we are glad this week is almost over :-)

I am glad to say that this new pattern is modern and really appealing.  I just finished all of my blocks and now just have to figure out how I'm going to put it all together.  Looks like I may have to make a call to my mom, Cathy, to talk out the next steps while Carter is still napping.

I look forward to sharing with you all of our new Cutie Patterns soon, as well as some other fun projects we have been working on, one using Dear Stella Fabric, another referencing Huguenot Street, and of course a few ideas for the winter months and maybe Christmas presents!

What does 2 more inches mean to you? Did you hear the big news from Handi Quilter? We are excited and cannot wait for this to arrive!!!

Hope to see you back here next week!
Sarah
